PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide supplemental literacy instruction to Beginner/Intermediate English Learners (9-12) in need of additional support in developing English literacy.  Teacher shall integrate critical processes and features of second language acquisition in lessons/activities to ensure English Learners fulfill their potential for cognitive, linguistic, affective, physical, and social growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree, required

Texas Teaching Certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned or other permits as approved by state, required

ESL Certificate, required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Communicate effectively (verbal and written) in both English and Spanish; utilize effective interpersonal skills; demonstrate knowledge of subjects assigned; exhibit general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; basic computer skills; understanding of Second Language Acquisition; multi-cultural awareness.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher, preferred

Experience in an ESL classroom, preferred
