PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Instructional Coach is responsible for working closely with teachers, students, and administrators 6– 8th, to ensure the performance of struggling students across all content areas. The Coach will provide high-level support for the campus that is consistent and fulfills the requirements of the state assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree, required
Master’s degree, preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate or permit with required endorsements for subject/level assigned, required
Texas Teaching Certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned or other permits as approved by state, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep understanding of scientifically based research and evidence-based practices for teaching core areas and assessing student progress toward achievement of benchmarks
Knowledge of research-based strategies in all content areas
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of state assessments
Provide resources and training to campus staff on scientifically based research and evidence-based practices for teaching core areas
Gather and assist in analyzing data and complete reports related to core areas
Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the math, reading, social studies and science achievement of struggling students
Experience:
Three (3) years teaching experience in secondary, required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist teachers with the use appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials/resources that align with district and state curriculum and meet the needs of at risk students.
2. Know how to use and implement a range of effective strategies and analyze instruction.
3. Provide Professional Staff Development and training sessions for district and campus based initiatives.
4. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.
5. Assist with implementation and monitoring of reading/math/science/social studies and intervention programs.
6. Work cooperatively with special population teachers to modify curricula as needed for special population students.
7. Work cooperatively with teachers to include best practices for special population groups.
8. Assist with the selection of books and other instructional materials to meet individual academic needs.
9. Attend and assist with intervention team (RTI Teams, at risk, Tier interventions, SSI, etc.) as needed.
10. Gather and assist in analyzing data and completing data reports.
11. Spend 75% of time coaching teachers work with at-risk students and 25% small group instruction.
12. Administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress, or those in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
13. Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments adopted by the district.
14. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders.
15. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
16. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
