PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To accompany high school and middle school choirs and choir classes on keyboard instruments (piano, organ, electronic synthesizer, etc.) during the regular school day, rehearsals and performances as scheduled by the head high school choir director; to promote a positive working relationship, among and between staff, by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work.  Assist with the assurance of high levels of achievement and learning for all secondary choir students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree, required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

A musician that is highly developed with very strong piano performance skills and a knowledge of the art of accompaniment; Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; knowledge of performance literature for secondary vocal music students.

 

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as an accompanist in an educational setting, private setting or solo and ensemble accompaniment experience, preferred

 

Working Days:  187

 

Daily Rate pay range:

 

Minimum:  $218.63

Maximum: $311.38

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

  1. Ability to accompany advanced choral repertoire for UIL Grade 4, 5, 6 and extended works including college level major works. 
  2. Create accompaniment recordings for student use in private lessons and performance at the high school and middle school level. 
  3. Ability to read and perform open score accompaniment. 
  4. Lead sectional and individual rehearsals as needed for student mastery of choral repertoire. 
  5. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment. 
  6. Work cooperatively with choral staff, head choral director, fine arts department and principal to meet the educational needs of the choral instructional program. 
  7. Use management practices that promote collegiality, teamwork and collaborative decision-making among staff members. 
  8. Provide for effective two-way communication channels with choral staff, head choral director, fine arts department and principal. 
  9. Work with choral department to contribute to attain district goals and objectives. 
  10. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all district staff. 

  11. Foster collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the district’s philosophy and mission and its commitment to site-based shared decision-making. 

  12. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 

  13. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
