PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To serve as an educational leader who promotes student success by integrating curriculum, resources and teaching strategies; acquiring, organizing and managing information literacy resources; facilitating the use and integration of information technologies and resources; establishing a library climate that enables and encourages all learners to explore and meet their information needs; and using his or her unique knowledge base to provide experiences that help learners locate, evaluate and use information to solve problems while becoming lifelong readers and learners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree in Library Science, required
Texas Learning Resources Specialist Certificate or Endorsement or School Librarian Certificate, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; manage library accounts and budgets; utilize appropriate information technologies
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher, required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop goals and objectives for the school library program cooperatively with teachers, administrators, parents and students to meet identified needs.
- Provide group instructional and individual user guidance for students and staff in location of resources and use of research techniques.
- Participate in curriculum design and plan cooperatively with administrators, teachers and students, individually and in groups, for effective use of the library’s resources and facilities.
- Manage the acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, maintenance and inventory of library resources.
- Perform library management operations such as budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, managing and maintaining library facilities and resources; and overseeing circulation and inventory.
- Direct and encourage students in the ethical use of resources to locate, gather, select, synthesize and evaluate relevant information.
- Provide instructional access to library resources and facilities through open, flexible scheduling for classes, small groups and individuals.
- Interact with students to promote reading as a lifelong activity and plan activities to stimulate student and teacher use of library materials and facilities.
- Collaborate with faculty and students to ensure that the process of evaluating and selecting library resources provides curriculum-related and leisure reading materials.
- Provide a balanced, carefully selected and systematically organized collection of library resources to meet students’ needs.
- Plan and direct activities of the library clerk, student aides and volunteers.
- Serve as a technology consultant to assist with information technology integration throughout the school.
- Coordinate district services by acting as a contact for district computer and AV equipment repair personnel.
- Acquire materials not available in the school library through inter-library loan.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
