PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To provide instruction to parents in and out of the school environment and promote the academic and affective needs of students by providing leadership training that empowers parents to be an advocate for the educational needs of their children; to promote a positive working relationship, among and between staff and the community, by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or equivalent, required

Valid Texas driver’s Class C license, required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Effective interpersonal skills; types and prints legibly; basic computer skills; Bilingual-speak and write fluent English and Spanish; communicate effectively (verbal and written)

 

Experience:

One (1) year of experience working with community services and adults, preferred

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Communicate the purposes of the Title I Regular Involvement program with teachers, parents and the community. 
  2. Assist the principal and parental involvement specialist with planning and implementing the parental involvement program. 
  3. Assist the principal and parental involvement specialist to plan, manage and conduct activities, such as Adult Basic Education classes and self-esteem classes for parents. 
  4. Inform all parents of Title I Regular students through home visits, letters (both in English and Spanish), or phone calls of scheduled training sessions, conferences, meetings, parent-school conferences, and/or other school-related activities. 
  5. Conduct home visits for Title I Regular students on a regular basis. 
  6. Assist the principal and parental involvement specialist in organizing the Parent Advisory Council, assist parents in conducting the meetings, and assist at all evening District Advisory Council meetings. 
  7. Coordinate services with parental involvement staff from other campuses. 
  8. Assist in planning and arranging classroom observations for parents. 
  9. Assist with campus parent volunteer program. 
  10. Identify resources within the school district, community or county that can provide survival skills for parents. 
  11. Conduct student referrals so that the student’s best interests are served at the contact agencies. 
  12. Submit all documentation, reports and travel logs requested by campus staff and the Director for State and Federal Programs.
  13. Develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. 
  14. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 
  15. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.

Privately owned vehicle, computer, copiers, multimedia equipment and other classroom or office machines

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands:

Patience in dealing with parents and small children; maintain emotional control under stress

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Driving; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; occasional lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds and over; ability to provide for sanitation needs and student hygiene as required; assist in the restraining of students in crisis situations

 

Days:  187

 

Hourly Pay Range:

Minimum:   $13.00

Maximum:  $18.20

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined indvidually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
