PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Early Literacy and Math Strategist is responsible for working closely with teachers and administrators in elementary schools (primarily in grades K-2 to help mitigate student struggles in both reading language arts and mathematics while also facilitating and utilizing best practices to improve the performance of struggling students. The Early Literacy and Math Strategist will provide support to members of the school community that is consistent with the requirements mandated by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree, required
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned, required
Bilingual or ESL Certificate, required
Bilingual Certificate, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep understanding of research and evidence-based practices for teaching K-2nd grades or elementary
Ability to accurately assess student progress
Extensive knowledge base of content, methodologies, and pedagogical practices related to the teaching of English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, guided reading and writing, as well as literacy in general with an emphasis on intervention and differentiation
Extensive knowledge of curricular requirements such as those mandated by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and state assessments
Ability to provide resources and training to campus staff on research and evidence-based practices for teaching literacy and supporting the mastery of mathematics concepts and process skills
Ability to gather and assist in analyzing data and write reports
Aptitude for creating an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth, build teacher capacity, and accelerate achievement for students
Experience:
Three (3) years of teaching or experience in a K-2 classroom, preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist teachers with the use of appropriate core and supplemental, and intervention materials that align with district and state curriculum for differentiated instruction (Sp. Ed., ELL, GT, etc.).
- Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum, best practices, and assessments to improve student achievement.
- Assist teachers with integrating research-based practices, technologies, and methodologies into the reading and writing instruction.
- Monitor the progress of struggling students and offer suggestions for intervention in order to meet the diverse needs of all students.
- Demonstrate a range of effective strategies for improving reading comprehension and writing ability for all students.
- Serve as an agent of change by providing research-based alternatives to current practices and procedures.
- Provide Professional learning opportunities and training sessions to support district and campus-based initiatives and build teacher capacity.
- Assist with the selection of textbooks, resources and other instructional materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Work with instructional leaders and teachers by observing instruction, offering constructive feedback, and modeling effective teaching practices for instructional improvement.
- Maintain a professional relationship in order to work effectively in a network team across content areas.
- Attend campus and district leadership team meetings to support teachers with instructional processes, systems, and updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Daily Rate pay range:
Minimum: $300.55
Maximum: $419.33
Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
