PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To assist the school principal in the overall administration of the campus programs; provide instructional leadership with guidance and direction; coordinate assigned student services that will ensure appropriate implementation of district policies and appropriate instructional guidelines to enhance student learning; to promote a positive working relationship, among and between staff, by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Master’s Degree, required

Texas Principal’s Certificate or Texas Mid-Management Certificate, required

Certified T-TESS Appraiser, required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; interpret data, federal and state laws and policies; demonstrate working knowledge of curriculum and instruction; demonstrate ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness; demonstrate knowledge of school administrative operations; computer knowledge, preferred

 

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher, required

 

Working Days: 212

 

Daily Rate pay range:

Minimum:  $352.92

Maximum: $492.40

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Assist the principal for the successful and effective development, supervision, evaluation and improvement of the instructional program.

 

2. Keep informed about current legislation, educational developments, literature and research in curriculum and instruction and by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate information and materials to all campus staff.

 

3. Conduct classroom observations and act as an appraiser of teachers and evaluate job performance of other staff members as assigned.

 

4. Evaluate other assigned staff members to document their performance and to recommend employment.

 

5. Assist teachers in maintaining student discipline and monitoring student behavior.

 

6. Counsel with students about their behavior while on the campus.

 

7. Enforce the provisions of the District Discipline Management Plan to ensure consistency and compliance.

 

8. Attend after-school and off-campus student activities to assist with the discipline and management of students.

 

9. Supervise plant operations, attendance accounting and the school safety and security programs.

 

10. Direct inventory, distribution and collection of textbooks/teaching resources.

 

11. Perform such record-keeping and report-writing functions as the principal may direct.

 

12. Keep the principal informed regarding conditions and needs of the school.

 

13. Work cooperatively with the principal, the school staff and the student body to promote positive school and community relations.

 

14. Assist in the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, duties, substitute employees and extracurricular activities.

 

15. Comply with federal, state, local and district policies and guidelines in order to provide fair and equitable service to all students.

 

16. Work cooperatively with school staff in the preparation, evaluation and revision of the annual campus improvement plan and assist in the preparation of faculty and student handbook.

 

17. Support and maintain a common vision for school improvement and using the district site-based shared decision-making process improve student learning and operational effectiveness by involving staff, parents and community members in a collaborative process.

 

18. Coordinate and supervise PEIMS data.

 

19. Adhere to ethical, legal and district standards.

 

20. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.

 

21. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Regularly required to stand, walk and sit; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, run, crouch or crawl; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; frequent district-wide travel and occasional state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; assist in physical restraint in crisis situation.
