PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

 

To provide instructional support to students for the purpose of providing a well-organized, smoothly functional supportive environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials in the Career Technical Education Program. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Education/Certification: 

Associate degree or a minimum of 48 college hours, required 

Paraprofessional Certification, preferred (required upon employment) 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to read, write, and communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English; ability to work with at-risk students; ability to follow directions and carry out assigned tasks independently and in an organized manner, basic computer application skills in spreadsheets and work processing software. 

 

Experience: 

One (1) year of experience in school setting, preferred 

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

  1. Serve as a resource to principals and teachers in the implementation of programs and services for at-risk students in CTE classrooms. 
  2. Implement instructional strategies and materials for at-risk CTE students. 
  3. Assist individuals or small group of students in reinforcement and completion of assignments. 
  4. Maintain a classroom environment that exemplifies high expectations, quality and student success. 
  5. Assist in the collecting and organizing of reports required by the Career Technical Education for the CTE students in the assigned classes. 
  6. Work cooperatively with CTE teachers, campus administrators, counselors, and CTE administration to provide high-quality instructional support for CTE students. 
  7. Coordinate instructional activities with classroom teacher to assist in student’s preparation of industry-based state licenses and certificates and CTE dual enrollment courses. 
  8. Assist in making parent contacts as appropriate and within the confines of academic issues of the student. 
  9. Direct social/emotional issues to appropriate pupil services personnel. 
  10. Direct student in need of further assistance to the appropriate pupil services personnel (counselor, social worker, administrator, psychologist, etc.). 
  11. Participate in appropriate professional development activities scheduled by the Career Technical Education Program. 
  12. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teacher. 
  13. Assist in clerical duties in relation to correspondence regarding the students in the Career Technical Education Program. 
  14. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 
  15. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Hourly Pay Range:

Minimum:   $13.00

Maximum:  $18.20

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
