PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program. To provide mechanical maintenance to all buses and district vehicles.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), required

Passenger and School Bus Endorsements, required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to follow instructions

Knowledge in diesel and gas engines

 

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year experience in auto mechanics, required

 

Workdays:  242

 

Auxiliary Pay Structure:  Pay Grade 7

 

Hourly Pay Range:

Minimum:   $18.65

Midpoint:    $22.20

Maximum:  $25.75

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Maintain the school district's motor vehicles: such as buses, trucks, cars, lawn mowers, farm tractors, fork lifts, emergency gasoline generators, truck tractors and trailers.

 

2. Notify the Director of Transportation or Mechanic Shop Supervisor immediately of any mechanical condition, which is dangerous to the operation of the vehicle.

 

3. Observe safety practices and report any safety hazards.

 

4. Wash and clean parts.

 

5. Attend in-services and safety meetings.

 

6. Drive bus routes and field trips when assigned.

 

7. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.

 

8. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
