PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) Child Nutrition Worker (CNW) is responsible for receiving, preparing, and serving cafeteria meals for all meal services the district participates in through the Texas Department of Agriculture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED, preferred
Food Handler's Certification by City of McAllen, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation, required
Ability to perform basic math, required
Demonstrate effective customer service skills, required
Knowledge of safety and sanitation guidelines with food preparation, preferred
Must be able to read, write and understand verbal instructions, required
Knowledge and ability to work with computers, preferred
Ability to lift, bend, pull, push, and twist, required
Experience:
Experience in institutional food service operations, preferred

Minimum: $12.75
Midpoint: $15.26
Maximum: $17.77
Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attend required meetings and trainings and implement required policies and procedures. Cook convenience food and receive food items from central kitchen per the recipes and the menu with high quality, serve food on time and so that it is aesthetically pleasing, ensure food is safe to eat.
- Prepare daily convenience food production of meals and receive food prepared by central kitchen.
- Prepare and serve meals in required quantities of food and non-food according to the school meal schedules and special diet modifications.
- Follow compliant and accurate records when receiving merchandise, counting inventory, managing time, handling cash, logging food production, logging temperature and counting and claiming.
- Demonstrate ability to work with coworkers cooperatively and always provide excellent customer service to students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Communicate & engage with students in a positive and encouraging way during meal service, provide a clean and safe environment, and create an atmosphere that promotes the best conduct of students.
- Adhere to sanitation and safety regulations always ensuring that food is handled safely, temperatures are logged in, and HACCP forms are completed daily.
- Perform clean up duties as assigned by supervisor and follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation; maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Adhere to proper dress code according to the department’s policy.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel short distance when needed and successfully substitute at current or different site for a FSW. Ability to work all CNP meal services such as breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. Saturday and non-calendar workday may be required on an as needed basis.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Use large and small kitchen equipment, including sharp cutting tools; use food grade cleaning solutions.
