PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To be responsible for helping to maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Clear driving record, required

Valid Texas driver’s Class C license, preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to handle and to use potentially harmful cleaning supplies safely and efficiently

Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs of building and grounds maintenance

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures

 

Experience:

One (1) or more years working in custodial services, preferred

 

Workdays:  242

 

Auxiliary Pay Structure:  Pay Grade 1 - Paid Monthly

 

Hourly Pay Range:

Minimum:   $12.00

Midpoint:    $14.50

Maximum:  $17.00

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Provide for a program of preventive maintenance to ensure that buildings and premises are kept neat, clean and safe at all times.

 

2. Inspect the building daily, make minor building repairs as needed and report major repairs and/or safety hazards to the immediate supervisor on appropriate forms.

 

3. Assist staff with movement of furniture, supplies and equipment as necessary or as directed by supervisors.

 

4. Use safe practices in the custodial maintenance of the facility and attend safety meetings.

 

5. Comply with safety and hazardous laws and regulations in the performance of his/her job.

 

6. Maintain an inventory of all cleaning supplies and equipment and notify head custodian when additional supplies are needed.

 

7. Attend meetings as required or directed by supervisors.

 

8. Attend job safety training, asbestos awareness notification and training on use of maintenance supplies and equipment.

 

9. Work outside of regular assigned work schedule and campus to include extra-curricular functions and to repair/replace needed facilities that may involve night and/or weekend duty as requested.

 

10. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include the cleaning of floors, whiteboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.

 

11. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.

 

12. Follow procedures for opening and closing the building, locking, checking and safeguarding facilities daily.

 

13. Assume responsibility during the summer for the painting of the interior and exterior of the building.

 

14. Stay informed of the District’s energy conservation procedures and implements them at his/her campus.

 

15. Call in to the Facilities Maintenance/Operations Department daily for job assignment.

 

16. Perform crossing guard duties as assigned.

 

17. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.

 

18. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Custodial cleaning equipment (scrubber, wet/dry vacuum, burnisher, backpack vacuum, ride/walk behind auto scrubber) and supplies, ladder, scaffold, small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire cutters, etc.), handsaws, power tools (saw, drill, sander, etc.), torque wrench, drills, grinder, jacks, lift equipment, fire extinguishers
