PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The GEAR UP Facilitator will work with a cohort student group to increase postsecondary enrollment by providing leadership, training, and technical assistance in supporting systemic reform of school services for student academic success. The cohort begins in 7th grade and provides supplemental services to students through middle school, high school, and the first year of college. The mission of the program is to significantly increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The facilitator will plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive GEAR UP program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Master’s Degree, required

Texas Counselor’s Certificate, required

Texas Teaching Certificate, required

Bilingual/ESL certification preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of secondary school operations and structure, including curriculum and instruction, teaching and classroom management strategies, assessments and evaluation.

 

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher, required.

 

Days: 201

 

Daily Rate pay range:

 Minimum:  $300.55

 Maximum: $419.33

 

Note:  Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

  1. Coordinate all aspects of the GEAR UP Partnership with University of Texas Rio Grande Valley representatives. 
  2. Serve as the liaison between UTRGV GEAR UP Project and the assigned campus. 
  3. Attend Project meetings and trainings as required by UTRGV GEAR UP Director.
  4. Collect student, parent, and teacher service data and input into data management online system. 
  5. Administer and collect student, parent, and teacher surveys annually.
  6. Coordinate with UTRGV GEAR UP staff in planning and implementing allowable services at the campus level that are aligned to Project objectives and outcomes with emphasis on rigorous courses, early preparation, college planning, testing, financial aid, and the importance of family involvement. 
  7. Develop a budget plan with campus administration, counseling department, and UTRGV GEAR UP staff to maximize GEAR UP funds for the benefit of all participants. 
  8. Recruit and train tutors; coordinate tutoring services for GEAR UP students. 
  9. Plan and coordinate with UTRGV GEAR UP professional development opportunities for teachers that are aligned with Project objectives and outcomes.
  10. Plan and execute GEAR UP parental involvement activities.
  11. Promote GEAR UP goals and objectives to students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders. 
  12. Develop training materials to provide workshop sessions for GEAR UP teachers, tutors, mentors, and parents. 
  13. Initiate methods for improving the implementation of the GEAR UP goals and objectives at the campus level. 
  14. Develop and support GEAR UP parent initiatives at the campus level. 
  15. Meet with teachers and students regularly to monitor implementation of GEAR UP academic initiatives. 
  16. Demonstrate effective teaching practices utilizing specialized materials and equipment. 
  17. Monitor and report progress of GEAR UP objectives to district and regional personnel. 
  18. Acquire knowledge and receive training to prepare students for institutions of higher learning. 
  19. Recruit, train, and coordinate tutor activities. 
  20. Perform budgetary, record keeping, and data management requirements of the GEAR UP federal grant. 
  21. Maintain accurate and complete auditable documentation.  
  22. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 
  23. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
